Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police are cooperating with the Interpol in an effort to arrest US citizen John Jerome Grice in connection with his alleged involvement in a passport forgery case.

"We have asked the Interpol to issue a red notice and also coordinated with the US embassy to arrest John Jerome," National Police chief intelligence Comissioner General Ito Sumardi said here on Thursday.

His statement came following the statement of tax corruption convict Gayus Tambunan that John Jerome was a CIA agent.

"We do not know where the story comes from but it has certainly attracted us to conduct cooperation to deal with the immigration violation," he said.

Regarding Gayus`s statement that a member of the presidential task force for eradication of judicial mafia was aware about it Ito said that "it still has yet to be checked further based on data and evidence to see if the statement is really accountable."

Ito hoped all cases involving Gayus could be immediately settled and noone should not even raise new problems.

Gayus was sentenced to seven years in jail on Wednesday. Gayus while in a police detention cell was able to leave the country using a forged passport. (*)
