Marwan Effendi said he did not know if Cirus Sinaga was the key witness in the case of Nasruddin`s deathJakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General Office will follow up the shocking statement from Gayus Tambunan on Wednesday, about prosecutor Cirus Sinaga`s role in the case of former anti-graft agency chief Antasari Azhar.
"We will study it. I have ordered the intelligence inspector to study the statement and will follow it up," deputy attorney general for supervision Marwan Effendy said here on Thursday.
After the court session on Wednesday Gayus after being convicted of corruption and sentenced to seven years in jail on Wednesday said that Cirus Sinaga played a role in the effort to send Antasari to jail on a charge of involvement in the murder of businessman Nasruddin Zulkarnaen. Cirus was the prosecutor in the Antasari`s trial.
Marwan Effendi said he did not know if Cirus Sinaga was the key witness in the case of Nasruddin`s death. "We will study it," he said.
He said if Cirus was later found to have violated the rules the office would give him a sanction.
"Regarding the criminal case it would be referred to the police," he said.
With regard to Gayus`s statement, Antasari`s lawyer Juniver Girsan said Antasari became more confident with his plan to file a judicial review of his case.
Antasari has been sentenced to 18 years. Antasari was named suspect in the murder case while he was just handling a number of alleged corruption cases.
Attorney General Basrief Arief meanwhile said he was doubtful about the truth of Gayus`s statement about Cirus. He said his statement still had yet to be verified.(*)
