Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The rupiah weakened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here Friday on the sluggish Indonesian stock market.

The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,092, or down 15 points.

"The rupiah fluctuation and the stock market is closely related. The slumping down of the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) in the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) has affected the local currently to weaken," David Sumual, a foreign exchange observer, said here Friday.

Besides, improved US economic report had also encouraged investors to buy the greenback, he said.
