Merak, Banten (ANTARA News) - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has begun an investigation into Friday morning`s KMP Laut Teduh ferry fire by gathering information from the boat`s crew members and passengers.

"We are conducting an initial investigation by gathering information from the crew members and passengers of the ferry," a spokesman of KNKT, Alex Nur Wahyudi said here Saturday.

A KNKT team led by Hermanu Karyomono would conduct the investigation for 30 days about the chronology and the source of fire of the fire accident of the ferry on the site, Alex said, adding that the analysis and conclusion would be conducted by the advance team.

However, the team couldn`t conduct investigation on the ferry as some parts of the ship were still on fire.

The investigation team would conduct investigation on the ship when the fire had been put out to cross-examine testimonies from the passengers and crew members with the fact in the site, Alex said.

The investigation is expected to finish within eight month, Alex said. (*)
