Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General`s Office said the deposit of case of Bibit S Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah signed by the Attorney General, was legal.

"The attorney general has the authority to issue a decision for a deposit," head of the Legal Information Center Babul Khoir Harahap said here Tuesday.

Commission III of the House of Representatives has suspended the hearing with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for 24 hours.

The suspension was made because Commission III believed that the status of Bibit S Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah is still as suspects in the case of alleged bribery of Anggodo Widjojo, although the case had been deposited.

He said that one of the reasons of the Attorney General at that time to deposit the case is aimed at supporting the government`s efforts of corruption eradication.

He also said that the attorney general of any country has the right to deposit a case in the interest of the public. "So what`s wrong with the deposit decision," he said.

Previously, president of the Constitutional Court Mahfud MD said the refusal of Bibit Samad and Chandra M Hamzah to attend the hearing with Commission III actually benefits the KPK.

Mahfud also said that the rejection of the presence of the KPK chiefs by Commission III is merely a political stance, whereas the decision of a person as a suspect or not is the power of the attorney general.

The Constitutional Court`s president suggested that a hearing is better represented only by KPK chief Busyro Muqoddas. (*)
