Padang (ANTARA News) - The price of ground dry rice grains (GKP) at the mills in West Sumatra in December 2010 had been raised by 18.02 pct to Rp3,786.7 per kg from the year before.

"The raise posed pressure on rice production, " Gaffari Ramadhan, economic researcher of Bank Indonesia here said on Friday.

He said however that demand for GKP in the province remained unchanged.

"Continued heavy rain in this year`s first quarter had affected rice production," he said.

A similar weather anomaly also prevailed in some other countries, which will affect rice production.

"Under such condition, the growth of the farming sector may be slightly hampered," he said.
