Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former cooperatives minister of the Soeharto era, Bustanil Arifin, passed away in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Indonesian National Logistics Agency (Bulog)`s CEO Sutarto Alimoeso said Bustanil who was also in charge of Bulog for some time passed away on Saturday (Los Angeles time) or Sunday at 03.35 PM (Jakarta time) at the age of 85.

Bustanil Arifin was born in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, on October 10, 1925. During the Soeharto era, he was appointed cooperatives minister/head of Bulog (1983-1988 and 1988-1993).

Before his death, he was hospitalized at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, the United States, for diabetes complication.(*)
