Strategic because besides bordering with Malaysia, the RI-Malaysia border is also very close to the South China SeaPontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Chief of the Indonesian Military (TNI) Admiral Agus Suhartono inspected the land border between Indonesia and Malaysia in West Kalimantan both on land and from the air.
From Pontianak he and some of his aides, and Tanjungpura Division Comamnder Major General Geerhan Lantara, went on board an Army Mi-17 helicopter heading to the Pengmanan border-post between Jagoi Babang and Aruk.
In the inspection, Admiral Agus Suhartono received a briefing on the condition and situation of the land border between RI and Malaysia from the 641/Bru Infantry Battalion commander.
In Aruk, the Admiral inspected a social service than on foot went to the Aruk post. Besides giving a briefing, he also provided assistance in the form of equipment and sports articles.
Earlier, he has said that the RI-Malaysia land border in Kalimantan has a strategic importance, .
"Strategic because besides bordering with Malaysia, the RI-Malaysia border is also very close to the South China Sea," he said.
In the meantime, West Kalimantan Deputy Governor Christiandy Sanjaya said the RI-Malaysia land border in the province has a length of 966 kilometers, crossing 14 villages, 15 sub-districts, five regencies, and 52 side-roads connecting 55 villages in W Kalimantan with 32 villages in Serawak (Malaysia)," he said.
Christiandy also said that along the land border in the province there are five border crossing gates in Entikong, Aruk, Jagoi Babang, Jasa, and Mangabadau.
