According to the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) the epicenter of the earthquake was at 4.48 degrees Southern Latitude and 101.04 degrees Eastern Latitude or 20 kilometers Southwest of Lais, North Bengkulu, at the depth of 154 kilometers.
The earthquake did not the potential to trigger a tusnami.
Bengkulu was jolted by a 7.3 earthquake in 2000 and a 7.9 temblor in 2007.
