Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Supreme Court (MA) turned down the appeal of Anggodo Wijoyo on Thursday and even increased the sentence for him to 10 years.

"MA has rejected Anggodo Wijoyo`s appeal and doubled the sentence for him to 10 years plus a fine of Rp250 million or five months in jail for failing to pay it," member of the MA-level corruption appeals court panel of judges, Krisna Harahap, said when asked for his confirmation on the ruling here on Thursday.

Other members of the panel are Artijo Alkostar, MS Lumme, Surya Jaya and Abdul Latief, Krisna said.

Krisna said Anggodo was proven conspiring in a corruption crime and obstructing investigation, prosecution and hearing during court sessions over a corruption case.

The High Court earlier sentenced Anggodo to five years in jail or a year longer than the sentence given by the lesser district court before.

Anggodo along with Ary Muladi now still under investigation by the corruption court has convincingly proven conspiring to conduct a corruption crime namely attempting to bribe deputies and investigators of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) with more than Rp5 billion in his effort to abort investigation into the corruption case involving his brother businessman Anggoro now still at large.

The case has shocked a lot of people after Anggodo`s recorded conversations with some law enforcement officials were heard at the constitutional court while the country was in the midst of carrying out anti-corruption campaign
