"This is the worst ever flood that we have ever experienced."
Sumbawa Besar, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - A flood triggered by incessant heavy rains on Sunday (March 6), inundated hundreds of houses at Brang Kolong village, Plampang sub district, Sumbawa District, West Nusa Tenggara Province.

The heavy rains which had fallen at the village since 1 pm local time Sunday, caused Brand Kolong river to overflow, Junaidi, a Brand Kolong villager, said Monday.

The floodwaters reaching a height of up to 1.5 meter, submerged hundreds of houses, markets, village offices, public facilities and knocked down a school fence.

Three security posts were swept away by the flood which also inundated rural roads.

Hundreds of hectares of onion farming areas were also flooded at the village.

"This is the worst ever flood that we have ever experienced . We are desperately in need of the government`s assistance, at least for relief aid," Junaidi said.

In Aceh, northern Sumatra, flash floods triggered by heavy rains had recently hit seven villages in Teunom sub districts, Aceh Jaya District.

Hundreds of houses were inundated in the disaster, Suhaimi, an Aceh resident said.

Students were forced to stay at home because their schools were also flooded, he said.

The seven affected villages are Gampong Baro, Paya Baro, Pasie Delima, Pasie Timoe, Tepie Ara, Pasti Tolak Bala, and Gampong Paya.
