Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Political analyst Maswadi Rauf said a cabinet reshuffle should not be carried out on the basis of political reasons but because of the poor performance of ministers.

"A reshuffle should be carried out if the president considers the performance of his ministers to be s bad. This is very important. If the cabinet is reshuffled for political reasons, I think it is not appropriate," Maswadi Rauf of the University of Indonesia (UI) said here on Monday.

He said if the cabinet was revamped because of political reasons, it would affect the government`s performance. It would likely disturb and reduce the performance of ministers.

Maswadi said he was afraid the cabinet would be reshuffled merely because of a coalition problem which would adversely reduce the logic reason to carry out a revamp.

He said that if it was true that the revamp was to be carried out due to political issues in the coalition, it would mean that the move was aimed not at improving the performance of the government.

"Good performance, particularly in the legal and economic sectors, is something that is important now," he said. (*)
