Titin Septiana Rahmawati, graduate student of Takushoku University, said she had got in touch with her colleagues in Tokyo and Sendai shortly after the quake hit some parts of Japan.
Titin said she happened to be in Yogyakarta when the earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 on the Richter scale struck Japan.
However, she was able to know her colleagues` condition through Skype, Facebook Yahoo Messanger and Mailing List, she said.
"I, actually, cannot get in touch with them via telephone.Instead, they can be contacted through Internet, such as Skype, Facebook, Yahoo Messenger and Mailing List," she said.
There were about 20 Indonesian students in Tokyo whose conditions could be confirmed by her. They were all safe, secure and in good health, she said.
She said she was also successful in knowing the conditions of four Indonesian students in Sendai, Miyagi prefecture. They were also safe.
Amid the blackout and snowy condition, her colleagues in Sendai stayed together at a dormitory, she said.
Chairperson of the Indonesian Students Association in Japan Fithra Faisal Hastiadi was also successfully contacted by Indonesian Ambassador to Japan M Luthfi.
Fithra was safe and in good health, Ambassador Luthfi said adding that he was concerned about the disaster in Japan.
He said the embassy`s staff kept verifying the conditions of Indonesian citizens residing in the disaster zones. There were about 20,000 Indonesians living in Japan.
"At the moment, the public transportation means, electricity and telecommunication lines in greater areas of Tokyo are disrupted," he said.
However, the Japanese government and people in the country were so well prepared for responding to this earthquake and tsunami, he said.
"We hope all Indonesians are safe and in good health. They are expected to remain calm," Ambassador Luthfi said.
Kyodo news agency reported that the earthquake and tsunami had so far killed at least 32 people and "many injured".
Some coastal areas in eastern parts of Indonesia, such as Papua, Maluku, North Maluku, and North Sulawesi provinces, had been warned of the possible threats of Japanese earthquake`s tsunami. (*)
