Samarinda (ANTARA News) - Kutai Kartanegara police in E Kalimantan, seized 5,800 metric tons of illegal coal from a pontoon in Mahakam river, during a raid of illegal mines since Mar 9, 2011.

The disclosure was made by Kutai Kartanegara police chief Ajunct Senior Commissioner Fadjar Abdillah to the press at the illegal coal mine in Dondang village, Muara Jawa sub-district, Kutai Kartanegara regency Monday.

The police, he added, also seized a tugboat, pontoon and 23 heavy equipment including bulldozers, dump trucks and excavators.

The police, Fadjar Abdillah added, has declared the director of PT. SMR as suspect for allegedly violating article 158 of Law No 4 of 2009 on minerals and may face 10 years in jail plus a fine of Rp10 billion.

"But the director of PT. SMR was still missing and we have declared him a fugitive. I have also called on other miners to obtain the necessary licenses, otherwise we will have to deal with them according to the law," Fadjar Abdillah said.

Kutai Kartanegara and Muara Jawa police he said were still developing the illegal coal seizure.(*)
