Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The dispatch of Indonesian workers to Japan this year is not affected by the earthquake and its subsequent tsunami that hit the country last Friday, a manpower official said.

"Japan will continue to receive nurses and care-workers from Indonesia in an effort to fulfill both countries` G-to-G cooperation program," Manpower Placement Service Director of the National Worker Protection and Placement Agency (BNP2TKI), Haposan Saragih said here on Monday.

Haposan Saragih who obtained his doctorate title from Japanese Kagoshima University, said that Indonesia dispatch about 100 workers to Japan this year.

He said that some 88 workers would be trained from March 21 to June 21 this year, consisting of 37 would be nurses and 51 others care-workers. They will be selected to be placed in Japan.

Besides that other selection would still be made to find another 100 would be workers that would sent to Japan, he said.

He said that from 2008 to 2010, the government had placed 686 nurses and care-workers to Japan.

Japan on Friday last week was hit by an earthquake measuring 8.9 on Richter scale, triggering a towering tsunami that swept through the north-eastern areas of Japan.(*)
