The nations are to discuss proposals to impose a no-fly zone over Libya which would aim to ground aircraft of forces loyal to its ruler Moamer Kadhafi which are waging a fierce assault against rebels.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy`s office said he and Foreign Minister Alain Juppe would meet with Clinton at 5:00 pm (1600 GMT).
Britain and France have a draft resolution in hand for the UN Security Council to enforce a no-fly zone over Libya. Juppe on Sunday vowed to step up efforts to get the measure approved.
Russia has appeared reluctant and the United States, Germany and Italy have taken a cautious line on intervention.
The other G8 members are Canada and Japan.
Diplomats told AFP the G8 ministers would also discuss Friday`s devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which has raised fears of a nuclear disaster after damage to a power plant. (*)
