Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have questioned 12 witnesses in connection with book bombs in three places in Jakarta on Tuesday.

"Until now we have questioned 12 witnesses for the three cases eight of them from Utan Kayu (one of the scenes)," the national police`s head of public information, Senior Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar said here on Thursday.

An unknown man recently sent a package containing a book with a bomb planted in it respectively to chief of the Utan Kayu Community, Ulil Abshar Abdalla, chief of the National Anti-Narcotic Agency, Gories Mere, and Pancasila Youth organization leader Yapto S Soeryosumarno.

The package with a bomb in it sent to Ulil exploded when the chief intelligence of the East Jakarta police resort tried to defuse it, hurting him and also another police officer and a security guard.

"The police have not circulated sketches of the couriers` complexion to the public (in efforts to find them) but it is still being made for internal use. Later if we need to publicize them we will do it," he said.

Boy said it was possible the couriers had been used by the perpetrator to send the packages. "The couriers might not know about the content of the package. So, police hope they would cooperate with the police," he said.

He said the police had not determined if the couriers were the perpetrators or just being used.

Police called on the people to be alert due to the incidents. "In such conditions anyone could become the recipient of such a package. It does not mean it would not happen again although the police hope it will not," he said.

Boy called on the people who received suspicious packages to report them to the police for security purposes.

The police meanwhile did not find the address in Bogor, West Java, used by the sender of a bomb containing package to musician Ahmad Dhani.

West Bogor police sector chief Adjunct Commissioner Hipda Tjahyono said he had combed the area bordering with Dramaga subdistrict where the Jalan Dermaga 21 address used by the sender of the bomb to Ahmad Dhani was located but did not find it.

"We only found houses number 19, 20 or 23 but not number 22 or 21. We have also checked the name of the sender, Alamsyah Muchtar S.Sos. but it was not found there," Dramaga subdistrict police chief Adang Supena said.(*)
