Indonesian attorney general Basrief Arief said the declaration contained affirmation from participants of the 7th meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) of Asia Pacific and the Middle East on the need for cooperation among public prosecutors from the regions.
"It also recommends formulating a proposal to increase regional cooperation in criminal matters," he said.
The important point from the meeting is, he said, it has been able to unite public prosecutors regarding the threats of transnational crimes on stability and security of all countries in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
"It has also underlined the need for a comprehensive and effective regional cooperation of prosecutors," he said.
He said they also considered it important for countries to fight and prevent the spread of transnational crimes.
The declaration also states about the need to develop networks among prosecutors and "to strengthen regional cooperation directly and immediately."
On bilateral meetings Basrief said they had called for increasing cooperation in law enforcement, assets tracing, multilateral agreement and extradition cooperation.
"They have also discussed cooperation in handling of cases whose settlements involve cross border cooperation," he said.
He said the Jakarta Declaration would be brought to the IAP meeting in Seoul, South Korea, on June 2011.
The IAP meeting here was attended by 195 participants from 34 countries and six international institutions.
