Jakarta (ANTARA News) -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially opened the Jakarta International Defense Dialogue (JIDD) held along with the Defense Ministry and the Defense University.

JIDD, the first held in Indonesia from March 23 to 25, 2011, had been opened at the Jakarta Convention Center at 10 am Wednesday.

JIDD, themed "Strengthening Security and Stability", was attended by representatives from 34 countries involving defense ministers and military commanders.

Fifty international participants will take part in dialogues followed by 1,300 foreign participants.

JIDD tried to collect leaders, high military officers, academicians, and policy makers from Asia and the Pacific and surroundings to foster harmonized security and strategies and for dialogues and involvement between defense forces most important for future stability of Asia and the Pacific.

JIDD is also aimed at promoting cooperation between governments in facing regional and international threats to security.

The three themes of this year`s JIDD covered building strategic cooperation in fostering stable security in international areas, promoting openness in international regions both in organization and organization, and forming a strategic model of defense and security.

Besides delivering an opening speech, the President on the occasion also attended by Prime Minister of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao and Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Teo Chee Hean, was also slated to watch an exhibition of defense equipment.
