Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on air transportation cooperation.

As reported in the press release from the Russian embassy in Indonesia received here Friday, the agreement signing was done in the Russia-Indonesia seventh joint assembly for economy, trade and technical cooperation.

The signing was done by Russian Deputy Minister of Transportation V.Okulov and his Indonesian counterpart Bambang Susantono on the occasion.

Both the Indonesian and Russian governments considered the signing of the MoU to replace the previous documents in 1990 as an important step for bilateral cooperation.

The expansion of aviation transportation is determined in the agreement will improve the interactions in economic, trade, business, cultural and tourism sectors.

Currently, regular direct flights have been carried out by two Russian airlines namely "Aeroflot" and "Transaero" with route Moscow - Denpasar, Bali.

The event was also attended by A. Yarochkin, Russian Commission Chairman, Russia`s Head of Tourism, Indonesian Foreign Ministry`s Director General of the United States and European Retno LP Marsudi, and Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Alexander Ivanov. (*)
