Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted Bengkulu Province at 1.22. p.m local time.

According to the website of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was located 5,27 degrees Southern Latitude and 102,46 degrees Eastern Longitude 115 km Soutwest Butuhan, Kaur District, Bengkulu Province at a depth of 12 km.

However, the earthquake has potential to trigger a tsunami.

There is no immediate report of casualties or damage on buildings.

Bengkulu had been hit by two major earthquakes in 2000 (7.3-magnitude) and in 2007 (7.9-magnitude).
