The authorities are still conducting the process in stages in line with the existing standards, the minister said at the presidential palace here on Friday afternoon.
"One by one the steps are being taken to confirm his identity. That is all. We need to confirm it first and the police know better about it," he said.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto meanwhile said identification teams from Indonesia were still working.
"It isn`t that he has been accused of involvement in several crimes in several countries and therefore we are still processing it. The teams are already there. Every country has its own system for dealing with crimes like our country. We will settle them together," he said.
National police chief General Timur Pradopo said the teams sent by the national police and the State Intelligence Agency carried data of Patek`s finger prints and DNA to be matched with those of the person reported to be Umar Patek arrested recently by the Pakistani authorities.
BIN chief Sutanto said based on his photograph that person was identical with that in the photo. He said however he could not as yet confirm if that man was really Umar Patek.
Umar Patek has long been wanted in connection with his involvement in the first Bali bombing in 2002 that left more than 200 people dead including Australian tourists.(*)
