A regional approach to economic growth centers could be made
Makassar (ANTARA News) - Trade minister Mari Elka Pangestu said a special approach was needed to move industries to places outside Java island.

"A regional approach to economic growth centers could be made," she said at a national seminar here on Saturday.

For that however infrastructure support would be needed such as roads, electricity and telecommunications, she said.

She said clusters were also needed to be set up based upon natural resource potentials, referring as an example the establishment of an information development cluster in Bandung, West Java, textile development cluster in Semarang, Central Java, cocoa cluster in Gowa and a nickel cluster in Soroako, South Sulawesi and steel cluster in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi.

Industry minister Hidayat on the occasion said three challenges are facing the regions namely how to develop the investment sector, industrial competence and to make the Indonesian chamber of commerce and industry increase the economic sector.

Hidayat said that although the industrial growth had reached 6.5 percent, availability of adequate infrastructure still remained a serious challenge.(*)
