There were cases in which customers trusted bank employees too much and this could result in customers suffering a loss and lead to collusion.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor for Supervision Halim Alamsyah said employee supervision in several banks was found not optimal.

"In some cases that we found based upon the results of monitoring so far supervision was not optimal in the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on employees," he said here on Monday.

Halim said there were cases in which customers trusted bank employees too much and this could result in customers suffering a loss and lead to collusion.

"Regulations need to be improved such as regarding checks and rechecks that must be made tighter and limiting the relations between bank employees and customers," he said.

For example, a bank employee should only be allowed to serve a certain number of customers maximally, he said.

"A prime customer system may not be abolished from the Indonesian banking system because foreign banks could grab the customers," he said.

Banks give special service or a private banking service to these customers.

Some customers however often ask for a special service and here is where vulnerability lies, he said.

He said "the service could make the customers give a full trust to the employee that serve them and this situation could be used by the employee concerned."

A private bank customers relations manager known by her initial as MD has been under a spotlight recently after being found stealing customers` money worth, known so far, Rp20 billion.(*)
