Roy Suryo said that the House of Representative`s new expensive building construction plans has injured people`s sense of justice.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A number of young House of Representatives members who have joined the "Coalition against the New Parliament Building" said there was no urgency in constructing a new building for the House.

Among the young legislators were Budiman Sujatmiko of the Indonesian Democracy Party-Struggle (PDIP), Edhy Prabowo of the Greater Indonesia Movement(Gerindra) Party, Teguh Juwarno of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Malik Haramain of the National Awakening Party (PKB) and Roy Suryo of the Democrat Party (FPD).

Budiman said setting up a new building for he House would be an unwise step as it was in contradiction with social realities in the country and would also demonstrate a lack of empathy for the suffering of the people.

"We will invite all the factions in the House of Representatives to put their own interests aside and unite with the aspirations of the people to cancel the new building construction and gain public confidence in the House of Representatives 2009-2014 period," said Budiman.

The effort to raise new House of Representatives building refusal has received notification from several members who have signed the cause, namely Hasrul Azwar and Romahurmuzy (F-PPP), Hendra Singkaru (PAN) and Eva Kusuma Sundari (PDIP).

Other parliament member Roy Suryo said that the House of Representative`s new expensive building construction plans has injured people`s sense of justice.

Public perception of the Parliament`s performance is still very low, and a hard long term work is needed to repair the image by improving the performance of legislation, supervision and budgeting in favor of the people.

Malik Haramain, another parliament`s member said that the building design approval process should be decided by a plenary session as the highest decision making forum in the Parliament.

"Therefore, it would immediately stop the new building construction plan in the plenary meeting that was scheduled on Thursday (April 8)," he said.

"We will stop the plan at the plenary meeting on April 8. That`s our final move to scuttle the new Parliament building construction," said Malik.(*)
