The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it plans to establish emergency call boxes in isolated areas at 551 public and private schools so that students can ask for help from security guards or teachers when they are in urgent need.
The alert bells are directly linked to security guards or teachers` offices so that they can pinpoint the exact location of the students in trouble.
To strengthen safety on and around campus, the city government will also establish 200 more surveillance cameras at primary schools, officials noted.
Under a school safety project, the city has already set up a total of 2,977 surveillance cameras at 580 primary schools in the capital since 2007.
