Depok, West Java (ANTARA News) - The University of Indonesia (UI) is to present an honorary doctorate to Brunei Darussalam`s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at a ceremony on Thursday (April 21), a spokesman said.

"The academic title is to be given to the sultan for his commitment to the quality of education and research in Brunei Darussalam," UI spokesman Vishnu Juwono said here on Wednesday.

Vishnu said Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah would get the honorary doctorate for Philosophy for Humanity and Dialogue for Civilization. He said UI highly appreciated the sultan`s involvement in promoting people`s welfare through the development of Brunei Darussalam`s economy and education.

He said the Sultan of Brunei was a charismatic and successful leader who inspired other nations in Southeast Asia and the international world.

"The Sultan plays a role in promoting dialogue for civilization by introducing the depth of the spirituality of Islam as a universal value," he said adding that Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had also promoted Islamic values by supporting research about Islam and tolerance.

In addition, the king`s involvement in supporting the creation of the ASEAN regional cooperation and other international cooperation had contributed to the development and promotion of world peace.

Vishnu said the bestowal of the Honorary Causal title would be conducted next Thursday at UI`s campus in Depok, West Java, with the university`s rector Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri to lead the awarding ceremony.
