"I would say that KPK has adversely committed subtle corruption because its operations have so far been extra-ordinarily wasteful."
Sleman, Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Former Speaker of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Amien Rais said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had not yet been able to act upon big-time corruptors but had adversely committed subtle corruption.

"I would say that KPK has adversely committed subtle corruption because its operations have so far been extra-ordinarily wasteful," he said at his house here on Friday.

He said that when he was MPR chairman his aim to set up the KPK was to overhaul big corruption cases, but in reality the KPK only hunted down small corruptors.

"In its operations the KPK spends hundred billions of rupiah but cases it was handling were small ones so that the amount of money recovered was smaller than the spent one," he said.

He said that KPK should have become a new force in the upholding of the law, particularly in the elimination of corruption.

"Many people have expressed admiration to the KPK so far for its attempt to eradicate corruption. This should serve as an encouragement for the KPK to fight corruption in the country," he said.

He said that the performance of KPK had not yet been optimal due to the fact the the people`s conditions in the country were chaotic, namely state leaders who love to pretend.
