New York (ANTARA News) - The United States government has confirmed its support to Indonesia to make use the chairmanship of ASEAN Summit in reducing the conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia.

"We support the efforts of Indonesia in their role as chair of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to work with both countries to reach a resolution," US Secretary of States Hillary Rodham Clinton, Monday (April 25).

She expressed deep concerns on clash between Thailand and Cambodian military in border of both countries and urged both to restrain.

"We strongly urge both sides to exercise restraint, refrain from provocative acts, and immediately take all necessary steps to reduce tensions and avoid further conflict," Clinton said in Washington DC.

The military of Thailand and Cambodia last April 22 to 24 again exchanged fires in Ta Moan and Ta Krabei temples, the border sites of both countries.

Several international media reported at least 11 people died in the fight, including six Cambodian and five Thailand militaries.

The deadly clash forced each country evacuated tens of civilians living in the border area.

"The loss of life, displacement of civilians and damage to property is regrettable," Hillary said.

Furthermore, she added, the US was conducting direct contact with Thailand and Cambodian officials in supporting the problem?s solution.

"We continue to urge the Royal Thai Government and Royal Government of Cambodia to resolve their disputes peacefully to help strengthen regional stability," she added.

United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Sunday (April 24), also asked both countries to conduct a ceasefire and said that the conflict could not be finished through military way.

Therefore, Ban urged the two countries to solve the problems through dialogs.
