Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A legislator of the House`s Commission III has expressed hope that the new director general of customs and excise would have the courage to arrest smugglers and to take legal steps to overcome smuggling.

Legislator Ahmad Yani told the press here on Thursday that New Director General Agung Kuswandono must have the gut to act on those who were already on the list of wanted people (DPO).

He said that some had been named suspects such as those involved in the smuggling of two containers of Blackberry and alcoholic drinks with Harry Mulya as the main suspect.

"If HM is already named suspect, just arrest him. It should happened that a suspect only served as a subject of discourse but followed up legal and firm steps are not taken. And a ban from overseas trip should also be issued if it is feared he would flee abroad," he said.

The United Development Party (PPP) politician said that the Blackberry and alcoholic drinks smuggling cases had uncertainly protracted.

"The Customs and Excise Office has named its perpetrator a suspect but the person is only put on the DPO list while no arrest is made," he said.

He said that the matters could lead people to question what were behind the two container smuggling cases.

"People may think that the Blackberry and alcoholic drinks smuggling cases are deliberately exaggerated to cover up the bigger cases of smuggling," he said.
