Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia needs quality economic growth capable of benefiting people in the low-income brackets, a banker said.

Nearly 87 percent of 40 million self-reliant entrepreneurs in Indonesia`s micro and small businesses still had no access to banking services, Bank Andara chief business development officer Don Johnson said at a function marking the 2nd anniversary of the bank here on Thursday.

The self-reliant entrepreneurs had difficulties developing their businesses, Johnson said in a press statement.

Therefore, strong micro financial sector capable of providing banking access to micro and small businesses in the country was badly needed, he said.

To provide better services to customers, he said Bank Andara would launch Andara Link, an internet-based, mobile banking service.

"Through partnership with micro financial institutions (LKM), this service will reach low-income customers using quality modern technology," he said.

One of the advantages of Andara Link was that transactions could be made on the spot so that LKM could provide services without having to set up branch offices, Irianto Kusumadjaja, the bank`s information and operations director, said.

Bank Andara had set itself the target of attracting about 200 LKMs to join Andara Link at the end of 2011. A total of 81 LKMs were currently joining the link, he said.
