Bekasi, West Java (ANTARA News) - Vice president Boediono said that Indonesia is currently facing the challenges of globalization and radical groups movement that threaten the existence of the nation.

Despite facing serious challenges, Indonesia should be grateful because it still exists and continues to develop up to now, Boediono said here on Sunday when opening an international seminar in connection with 30th anniversary of the religious teaching institution of the As Syafi`iyah Islamic university here.

"However, it is only possible to exist if we all stand to continue conducting the consensus of the founding fathers that Indonesia is home to all people, regardless of group, tribe, class or religion," the vice president said.

Regarding the role of the religious teaching institution or shortly called BKMT, Boediono said that the BKMT has had contribution to creating the society that coexistence and mutual respect so that all the challenges this nation facing can be overcome.

"I am very delighted to have seen the active role of the BKMT in developing the noble character of all Muslims. The noble character of course has the values ​​that promote peaceful coexistence in diversity," Boediono said.

On the occasion, the vice president called on the people to emulate the policy of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) that overshadowed all the people in a fair manner though they are from different backgrounds and different beliefs.

"The role model from Prophet Muhammad is certainly inevitable in the country`s life right now. The role of religious teaching institution in creating role model of the Prophet Muhammad is very important," Boediono noted.

The teaching institution can develop tolerance and mutual respect in public life, the vice president added.

The international seminar which was participated in by some 2,300 people featuring overseas and local speakers. (*)
