Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK) and private company Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) inked a partnership program here on Wednesday to preserve and develop the world`s rarest Java`s rhinos.

Under the partnership program, APP would provide Rp3 billion in the first phase assistance.

The agreement was signed here on Wednesday between TNUK Head Agus Priambudi and APP Managing Director Aida Greenbury in the presence of Director General for Forest Protection and Nature Preservation Darori.

Darori said on the occasion that the partnership program between TNUK and APP would help increase the population and protection of the remaining rare rhinos.

It would also accelerate the target to achieve the goal of the Indonesian rhino conservation.

In the meantime, TNUK head Agus said that all parties had the responsibility to help safeguard Javanese rhinos. "I very much appreciate APP`s willingness to conserve this rarest animal." he added.

"This is very important in the effort TNUK to increase the population of Javanese rhinos by about 50 percent in 2015," he said.

The main focus of the partnership is to increase the population of rhinos, rehabilitate their habitat and ensure harmonious co-existence between the rare species and the local people living in their surroundings.
