Muara Teweh, Central Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of dead chickens in a number of Muara Teweh hamlets, North Barito district, Central Kalimantan, this month, were found to have contacted H5N1 bird flu virus, an official said.

"The bird flu, which is also dangerous to humans, has killed chicken only in certain places. The disease has yet to spread in all places in this region," Head of Disease and Pest Control of North Barito`s Agricultural Service, Anang Junaidi, said here on Wednesday.

He said that bird flu cases were only found in certain places in Karang Jawa hamlet of Melalyu Muara village, Muara Teweh. The samples were taken and were tested last month.

"We have yet to check the death of chickens elsewhere suspected to have been caused y other diseases during the change of weather conditions," he said.
