Madiun, East Java (ANTARA News) - A bus collided with a truck at Pajaran village, Saradan sub district, Madiun District, East Java Province, Sunday evening, killing nine people and injuring several others.

The dead victims were taken to Caruban Regional Public Hospital in Madiun, while the injured were rushed to Nganjuk Regional Public Hospital.

The casualties included the truck`s driver, seven passengers of the truck, and an assistant to the bus`s driver.

The Sumber Kencono bus was traveling from Madiun to Surabaya, the capital of East Java Province, when the accident occurred.

Baeran (45), a local resident who witness the accident said, the the bus was trying to avoid a motorcycle when it collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

The motorcyclist was safe, but the truck driver and passengers were killed in the accidents. The ill-fated passengers were farmers who returned home after delivering sugarcane.

Madiun Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Nanang Juni Mawanto confirmed about the tragic accident, and said an investigation was still underway.
