Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy House Speaker Pramono Anung Wibowo said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) must be proactive in investigating alleged gratification money given by Democrat Party (PD) treasurer to the Constitutional Court (MK).

"I don`t think KPK needs to wait for an official report from the MK chairman over the alleged gratification money because it is not ab offense that can be prosecuted only based on a complaint," ," Pramono said here on Tuesday.

He said t the KPK should take the initiative and be proactive in thoroughly examining the alleged gratification case, after all the case had already caught the public`s attention.

So far, he said, the people`s appreciation towards the anti-graft body had begun to decline because it became blunt when it faced a case believed to involve government officials and ruling party politicians.

"KPK must be independent and should not discriminate in handling cases," he said.

The Democrat Party`s Council of Ethics announced on Monday evening its decision to discharge its general treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin for allegedly having tried to give `gratification` money to MK Secretary General Janedjri M Gaffar in September last year.

The PD took the decision two days after Constitutional Court (MK) Mahfud MD reported to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Saturday that the PD treasurer had tried to give S$120 thousand to MK in September 2010.
