Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is trying to avoid sanctions from the world`s football governing body FIFA following its failure to set up a new national football association executive board.

Agum Gumelar, the chief of the Normalization Committee set up by FIFA for the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to elect its new executive board through a national congress recently, said here on Saturday he would leave for Switzerland to meet FIFA chief Sepp Blatter with regard to the failure of the congress to elect a PSSI new executive board last May 20.

He said although he had received no confirmation if he could meet with Blatter he had already sent a letter to him regarding his intention.

He said he heard his letter had been received by Blatter but the FIFA chief had not given his official reply.

"On May 29 we will be received by FIFA. We will meet with Theirry Regenass and a team that would process the Indonesian case. Everything will be discussed at the meeting later," he said.

He said would bring all the aspirations that came to the Normalization Committee to Switzerland.

He said 99 percent of Indonesian football fans wished Indonesia would be relieved from any sanction from FIFA in connection with the country`s failure to elect a new PSSI executive board due to rivalries.

He said he would work hard to avoid the country from being given a sanction.

"The AFC has already asked FIFA to give a sanction to Indonesia. So we have a hard work to do," he said.

If FIFA gives a sanction Indonesian national and club teams would not be allowed to play at international championships.

Agumd would be accompanied by PSSI secretary general Joko Driyono in the meeting with FIFA executives.
