London (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is ready to host the 82nd meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), the Indonesian delegation to such a meeting held in the central Swiss city of Luzern said.

The Indonesian delegation expressed the readiness at a cultural reception held at Kultur Kongresszentrum (KKL) Lucerne, the Indonesian embassy in Bern said in a press statement issued to an Antara correspondent in London on Thursday.

The reception was aimed at wooing 92 member countries to vote for Bali as a venue of the 82nd ICOLD meeting in 2012, the embassy said.

Luzern which is located at the heart of Switzerland and known as a tourism hub is hosting the 79th ICOLD meeting on May 29-June 3.

The Indonesian delegation led by Director General of Water Resources at the Public Works Ministry Dr. Ir. Mohammad Amron comprises representatives from the Public Works Ministry, the Indonesian National Committee on Large Dams (INACOLD), the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Djoko Susilo in his written address to the cultural reception extended invitation to representatives of the 92 ICOLD member countries to hold a meeting in Bali next year. The world-renowned tourist island was ready to host the meeting thanks to its experience in organizing various international meetings, he said.

Indonesia attached significance to dams because they had contributed a lot to sustainable development in water resource and energy fields, he said.

ICOLD is a forum for exchange of knowledge on all aspects related to dams.
