"Today at 11.30am East Indonesia Time in a hilly region in Poso the two suspects were killed during a shootout," National Police head of public information division Senior Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar said here on Saturday.
Police from the anti-terror unit of the National Police Headquarters and the Central Sulawesi Police Command were involved in the search of the two suspects. Boy did not as yet tell the names of the two.
"All police officers involved in the raid are safe. Among the evidence confiscated is an V2 gun belonging to the police that has been taken away by them while other evidence materials are still being collected," he said.
The bodies of the two were expected to be taken for an autopsy to the Bhayangkara police hospital in Palu, he said.
The police have been chasing three suspects involved in the shooting of three police officers in Palu that had left two of the officers dead. Meanwhile they have so far been able to catch two other suspects namely Hariyanto and Furqon.
The attack on the three police officers occured at 11.30am local time at Bank Central Asia on Jalan Emy Saelan on May 25.
Second brigadier Gustiar Yudhistira and second brigadier Prawira were killed in the incident while second brigadier Deddy Edward was wounded. The three were killed while on duty at the bank to assure security of vital objects.
The attackers were riding motorcycles and used rifles in the attack.(*)
