Bengkulu, Sumatra (ANTARA News) - A 4.3-magnitude earthquake shook Muara Aman, Lebong district, Bengkulu province, on Sunday at 4.41 p.m.

The quake was centered 65 km southwest of Muara Aman at a depth of 56 km, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in its official website.

The temblor was felt by people living in Muara Aman for a few seconds, local resident Hermawan said.

Bengkulu was hit by a powerful quake with a magnitude of 7.9 in 2007, leaving tens of people dead and destroying thousands of houses with material losses estimated at hundreds of billions of rupiahs.

Earlier, a 7.3 magnitude quake also rattled the province in 2000 in which tens of people perished. (T.SYS/C/S012/B003)
