Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police on Thursday caught 170 Chinese and Taiwanese citizens on cyber crime charges, a spokesman said.

"Today the National Police`s detective body (Bareskrim) and the Jakarta metropolitan police nabbed 73 Chinese citizens and 97 Taiwanese citizens on charge of swindle through the Internet or cyber crime," head of the National Police`s public information service Snr Comr Boy Rafli Amar said on Thursday night.

Police made the arrest following tip-offs from Chinese and Taiwanese police that many people had fallen victim to cyber crimes, he said.

"Based on the results of investigation the Chinese and Taiwanese citizens are now staying in Indonesia," he said.

They were staying in 10 different places in Indonesia, including Serpong, Bekasi and North Jakarta, he said.

"The 170 foreign nationals consist 120 men and 50 women," he said.

Police would later cooperate with the directorate general of immigration to check their travel documents, he said.

"We will later coordinate with the Chinese and Taiwanese police to take further steps," he said. (*)
