Othman al-Gamdhi, who was repatriated to Saudi Arabia in 2006 and later disappeared, was publicly identified as AQAP`s operational commander in a May 2010 video in which he appears with the group`s military commander, it said.
"Al-Gamdhi has been involved in raising funds for the organization`s operations and activities in Yemen," the State Department said. "He has also worked with other AQAP members to plan and stockpile weapons for future attacks."
He is the seventh AQAP member on the terrorist list, which authorizes action to block their assets.
The State Department said al-Gamdhi was also added to a similar United Nations list requiring member states to freeze assets, ban travel and prohibit arm sales to the listed individuals and entities. (*)
