Terrorism has become a threat to the international community and therefore we are committed to expanding cooperation to fight it.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The People`s Republic of China is committed to expanding cooperation with a number of countries to fight terrorism, the Chinese Army`s Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Hou Shusen, said here on Friday.

"Terrorism has become a threat to the international community and therefore we are committed to expanding cooperation to fight it," he said after the close of a joint exercise between Indonesian army`s special force Kopassus and its Chinese counterpart.

He said the Chinese government supports the United Nations` moves to strengthen cooperation among nations in the fight against terrorism.

Shusen said anti-terrorism fight requires cooperation from many parties because terrorism is caused by a lot of factors.

"Terrorism is caused by many factors which can be political or economic," he said.

In view of that close cooperation among nations is needed, he said.

"The Chinese government is committed to building cooperation and ties intensively with all nations in the world including Central Asia, Southeast Asian nations and the European Union countries," he said.

The Chinese army`s special force had held a joint exercise with Kopassus from June 6 to June 19 which was focused on terrorism handling.

The exercise covered sniping, reaction shooting one to four, tire house raid, close-range fight techniques, method of entry, techniques and tactics for releasing hostage, static and free fall parachute jumping and a case study on terrorism. (R018)
