"This is our attempt to ensure power supply for the people, especially those who live in the outer islands of Riau," he said here, Sunday.
The project had been planned long ago for the sake of the PLN`s customer satisfaction, Rasyid said.
According to Rasyid, PLN in Dumai which also oversees Riau coastal area includes Meranti Island district, Bangkalis and partly Rokan Hilir district as well as Dumai city, will try to satisfy the needs of customers.
"We hope that the power line would improve the economy of the local people," he said.
This year, the marine power line from Dumai to Rupat sub district, Bengkalis district, covering six kilometers will be built, Rasyid noted.
"The plan is still in the tender process. We are targeting the process to be completed by the end of this year and in 2012 is expected the power supply in Rupat island is linked to the interconnection system," he explained.
Power for most of Rupat island is currently provided by diesel plants.
"There are five diesel plants which supply the electricity to a number of residential areas. The condition is optimal, but still not connected with the Sumatra main power system," he explained.
Later, the power line is believed to be able to contribute more maximum power, because if there is interference with the diesel plants, power supply can be automatically transferred to the Sumatra system, Rasyid explained.
The power line includes power cables and other devices will be installed along Pakning river to Sumatra mainland and Bengkalis island.
"The length about nine miles. The network will be connected to a substation which will also be built this year," Rasyid said. (*)
