Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Gajah Mada Universtity (UGM)`s Faculty of Forestry is cooperating with Korean University in tropical forest research and forest existence for food availability.

"The cooperation is in the framework of tropical forest rehabilitation and the solution of global climate change impact," dean of UGM forestry faculty Mochammad Na`iem said here on Tuesday.

He said the researchers from South Korea were interested in researching tropical forest and the existence of forest for food availability.

According to him, the tropical forest research would be conducted because such a forest has complete ecosystem and thus the Korean researchers were interested in cooperation with UGM to do the research.

"The cooperation with Korean University will be conducted by using biotechnology, monitoring remote searching, and geographic information system for forest management and global climate change control.

He added that the research on the existence of forest function for food availability would be conducted on the basis of global issue such as the threat of food crisis being faced by all countries in the world.

"Uncontrollable illegal logging activities have caused decreasing food supply and food security," he said, adding that the cooperation between UGM and Korean University would also be conducted in the form of teachers and students exchange program.
