Indonesia needs an extradition agreement for among others catching corruptors and money launderers who have so far been hiding in Singapore.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said no progress had been made with regard to the conclusion of an extradition treaty with Singapore.
"No progress (has been made yet). We are still in the same position as some time ago," he said here on Friday after accompanying President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at a meeting with of Singaporean Foreign Minister K Shanmugam.
Marty said at the l meeting with his Singaporean counterpart at his office various issues had been discussed including cooperation in the field of law, especially an extradition treaty.
Regarding the agreement which has been put in one package with the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) Marty said Indonesia has started conducting informal communication with the parliament to review and explore steps which can be taken in the future.

Negotiations on it were halted several years ago after no agreement on DCA was reached due to sovereignty issue. The DCA would make it possible for the Indonesian air territory to be used by Singapore for military training.
Several quarters meanwhile have expressed concern that the agreement, if finally reached, could no longer be used to catch corrupters in the past.(*)
