Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has signed a decree extending the tenure of Busyro Muqoddar as chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) by four years or until 2014, a spokesman said.

The President`s special adviser on legal affairs, Denny Indrayana, said here on Thursday Presidential Decree Number 33/P.2011 was signed by President Yudhoyono on Tuesday, June 28, 2001.

"In accordance with the ruling of the Constitutional Court (MK) and in support of KPK`s mission as well as to show his commitment to corruption eradication, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has signed Decree Number 33/P/2011," he said.

Denny said in the decree, Busyro`s term of office had been extended by four years to 2014.

The decree automatically annulled an earlier presidential decree that gave Busyro only one year of service until the end of 2011 in line with a decision of the House of Representatives (DPR).

The House had opined that although the MK had decided that Busyro`s term should be extened by four years he could not automatically be the KPK chief until 2014.

The MK had ruled that the KPK chief would be elected again after the DPR selects four KPK deputies for the period 2011-2014.(*)
