Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government and business circles are exploring the possibility of establishing economic cooperation links with Myanmar in a series of business meetings in Yangoon, an Indonesian official said.

Indonesian Ambassador to Myanmar Sebastinus Sumarsono said in a press statement received by Antara on Monday, the meetings were conducted in relation with a working visit to Myanmar by Indonesian Deputy Trade Minister Mahendra Siregar and Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto recently.

"One of the objectives of the working visit to Myanmar by Mahendra Siregar and Suryo Bambang Sulisto was to explore economic cooperation between the two countries," Sebastinus said.

He said a seminar on economic prospect and opportunity in Myanmar was conducted and attended by a delegation from Indonesia and Myanmar`s Deputy Minister of Commerce Prof U Pwint San, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Kan Zaw, and Vice President of Myanmar`s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Maung Maung Lay.

"It is revealed in the seminar that the direction of Myanmar`s economy was relatively good and promising," Sebastinus said.

He added that besides the seminar, a bilateral meeting was held at the office of Myanmar Ministry for National Planning and Economic Development in addition to one-on-one business gathering between 16 Indonesian businessmen and 70 businessmen from Myanmar.

In the one-on-one business meeting, the 17 Indonesian businessmen in the fields of manufacture, mining, construction materials, textile, and banking got a promising business offer from Myanamar`s business makers.

The working visit to Myanmar by Indonesian delegation lasted from June 30 until July 2, 2011.
