We hunt the armed gang not community members...Jakarta (ANTARA) - Defense Forces (TNI) chief commander Admiral Agus Suhartono said the attackers of three TNI members in Papua recently were from the old group.
"TNI has already known who or the armed group that have conducted the shootings. They are from the old group. However we have to remain careful and alert with regard to them," he said to ANTARA here on Friday.
Early last week three TNI members were shot by unknown civilians in Kalome hamlet in Tingginambut, Puncak Jaya District.
Second private Kadek, first sergeant Deni and chief private Fauzi have undergone operations due the wounds they suffered from the attack.
Admiral Agus Suhartono said TNI would continue to hunt the attackers. "We hunt the armed gang not community members. We would later turn them in to the authorities concerned so that such an incident would not occur again in the future.
He said the TNI is now taking welfare approaches held such as through "Healthy Honai" community service to improve public means and facilities.
"We do it with a hope that the activities could help boost the welfare of the people in Papua," he said.
He said "indeed there are still groups who are seeking an advantage by trying to make our efforts failed."
In view of that he said the TNI would remain careful and alert in dealing with any development in the region.
"What is clear is that we will continue to focus on the welfare approach. Indeed it is not easy because changing a culture is not as easy as it sounds." he said.
"But we will continue to do it and it would take a long time and hard work," he said.
