General Subiyanto is professional, maintains the neutrality of the TNI, and pays attention to the welfare of soldiers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian House of Representatives' (DPR RI's) Commission I approved the nomination of Indonesian Army Chief of Staff, General Agus Subiyanto, as Indonesia Defense Forces (TNI) Commander after passing a fit and proper test on Monday.

"Commission I of the DPR RI gave approval to the appointment of General Agus Subiyanto as TNI Commander," chairperson of Commission I, Meutya Hafid, stated while reading out the results of the meeting related to the fit and proper test for the TNI Commander candidate.

Hafid remarked that the decision was unanimous, with all members of Commission I supporting Subiyanto's candidacy.

On the same occasion, she noted that there was no additional note regarding Subiyanto's nomination.

"There was no additional record. General Subiyanto is professional, maintains the neutrality of the TNI, and pays attention to the welfare of soldiers," she remarked.

She also expressed hope that Subiyanto would maintain partnership between the TNI and Commission I of the DPR RI.

Furthermore, Commission I of the DPR RI will write a letter to the House Speaker regarding this approval.

In the next process, the House Speaker will ratify the nomination of Agus Subiyanto as TNI Commander in the DPR RI Plenary Session.

Once the nomination was approved, the general will wait for his inauguration as TNI Commander by President Joko Widodo.

In the same meeting room, General Subiyanto expressed his gratitude for the approval from Commission I of the DPR RI.

"TNI is ready to continue partnering with Commission I. Thank you," he remarked.

General Subiyanto, who officially served as Army Chief of Staff since last month, was the sole candidate for TNI Commander proposed by President Joko Widodo. He was nominated to replace TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono who retired on November 26, 2023.

He also underwent a fit and proper test, as part of his candidacy at Commission I, for approximately two hours. In this series, Commission I of the DPR RI continued to undergo factual verification at Subiyanto's private residence in East Jakarta.
